I have recently come accross an article which tells of a ninety-odd year old woman who attributes the use of molasses for her fresh complexion. She shares that every night she applies molasses to her face and leaves it on for an hour before washing it off with water! She even claims to ingest some of the stuff from time to time!
I've grown up in the Caribbean where some of the people share traditions and cultures which span back to ancient times. Molasses has long since been used as a health aid and for medicinal purposes in some cases. The elders often admonish the frequent use of molasses to ensure vigor and overall good health. It is even used in placeof sugar in the diet of some individuals; my grandmother being one!! :-)
But what about using molasses on the skin!!!!!
Some might exclaim in disgust at the thought of such a thing! For those who don't know, molasses is a very thick dark coloured syrup made when sugar or beet is processed to make sugar. Believe it or not it is a rich source of iron, calcium and magnesium - all of which are good for the skin.
So yes, I have tried that old lady's beauty tip and I must admit I was amazed! Yes, literally I was!!! One night I cleansed my face with my usual "simple" foam cleanser and patted dry my skin. I then smeared molasses all over my face covering everything except my eyes. I was scared half to death when I looked up in the mirror and saw my face. It looked as if my face was severely burnt!!! It was a rather comical experience! I relaxed and waited for exactly an hour before washing off the molasses with warm water. It washed off quite easily.
That old lady knew what she was talking about! My skin never looked so great! Almost flawless! Seriously, not exaggerating here!!! My skin looked brighter and felt smooth to the touch!! I decided I most try this again and I do so on a regular basis but not nightly, though. I do it about 2 -3 times per week.
Imagine just plain old molasses as one of my vital beauty aids! There has been much rave about blackstrap molasses but I use plain old molasses with great results; besides, in the article with the old lady no mention was made of her using any particular type! Try this and let me know how it worked for you! This tip is a definite keeper in my beauty regime!!!
